Teeth whitening has become one of the best ways to improve your appearance and is now actually part of what you put on. There is nothing that you can compare with a bright shining smile to bring a much required boost to your self confidence and self esteem. There are many who wonder if there are any side effects, however minor there may be that they have to deal with as they brighten their teeth.

Today professional teeth whitening that is carried out a dentist’s office requires the use of a laser, a special light or  a peroxide based solution  called carbamide peroxide to form hydrogen peroxide in the mouth. This is widely known as the bleaching agent that bleaches the teeth white. The way this process works is the active ingredient in the bleach breaks down which then allows oxygen to enter the enamel and dentin, thereby bleaching your teeth and giving them a brighter color. These peroxide based bleaching agents are usually likely to cause some chemical burns if and when it comes into contact with your unprotected gum tissue. This usually results in significant issues of teeth sensitivity and some damage to the tooth enamel.

There may also be the issue of the cost implication for you to consider because a professional teeth whitening job is going to cost you a small fortune. And I suppose this is the reason why for along time it is only rich celebrities who would afford to perform these procedures because they could afford them. We don’t believe that this should be he case in our day and time. Many people who want to have the same results and not rob a bank to reach their goal are opting for take home teeth whitening kits which are vey easy for any one to make use of.

These take home teeth whitening kits basically use the same bleaching agent as the one your dentist is going to use in his or her office only that the home kits have a smaller concentration for reasons that should be obvious of all of us. There are many kinds of products in the teeth whitening industry, so it’s hard to find the best teeth whitening gel. But if you educate yourself a little bit, you will be able to find a great product that you know will work for you.

The market may be flooded witds of gels to do this same assignment. But all you need to know is that most of them have the same basih different branc ingredient as a bleaching agent. That ingredient is a chemical called carbamide peroxide. Whether the gel is bought from a local convenience store or put on your teeth by your dentist, the ingredient is probably the same. The difference is the amount of carbamide peroxide. However, the most important precaution would involve the level of concentration of the main peroxide ingredient. It is a given fact that as you raise the level of carbamide peroxide in a whitening gel, you raise the risk that your teeth will be affected by it. How will your teeth be affected?  High concentrations of carbamide peroxide can make your teeth very sensitive for hours or even days after treatment.

When you go for a professional job in a dentist’s office, they are likely to use a special gel on your teeth to reduce sensitivity. There are also a few take home kits that have gels that will give you a similar experience of reduced sensitivity but give you the same kind of results as well. Today there even gels that are packaged in a pen applicator.  The applicator is filled with the whitening agent that you then apply to your teeth and you will quickly start to see the desired results. As long as you are looking for a product that has a high concentration of carbamide peroxide, or an appropriate substitute for sensitivity, you can be sure that you are using one of the best teeth whitening gels. Remember that you do not necessarily have to spend a fortune to have your teeth whitened a few shades lighter. All you may need to do is do a little homework of looking around before you make up your mind and the rest as they say will be history.
