You may not know it but your nails are an extremely important part of your hands and a lot of care needs to be taken on how you treat them. It is always nice to behold well kept hands with nails that are just lovely. Some women are nice looking from top to bottom but when you look at their hands and nails you forget everything else that you had seen earlier. Proper care for your nails should not be so difficult with the tips we shall share here.

It can always begin with something as simple as knowing how to properly clean your nails regularly and how to deal with cuticles while moisturizing your nails at the same time. Just like you do with your hair, nails are usually at their healthiest when left in their natural state. With just a little bit of nail polish for protection and a regular application of some nice moisturizer by way of hand cream.  There a few people who actually argue against the use of nail strengtheners with all those chemicals. The argument is that though they make your nails rigid they also make them less flexible and much easier to break on impact. The best thing to do is to ensure your nails are kept flexible and moisturized.   And in case your nails are splitting frequently that may be an indicator of dehydration which simply requires that you increase your intake of fluids and using oil that can penetrate the nail plate.

If your nails are not in their natural state they demand some little extra attention which you can actually afford. By nature nails that are either long or pointed will be weaker than the normally shaped nails and will therefore require some special attention. You can minimize potential damage by applying some nail hardener which will minimize the chirping and peeling of the enamel. You can try nail hardeners that have nylon fibers as they give better results.

Below are some nail care tips that you can consider adding to your routine of skin care while at home.

  • You can harden soft nails by soaking them in warm olive oil for about 20 minutes every other day
  • If you want to remove stains from your nails simply mix one tbsp of lemon juice in a cup of water and soak in your nails for a few minutes after which you can wash off with warm water and apply a hand moisturizer.
  • Do not remove cuticles from your hands as it leaves then susceptible to infections. You need to acquire good quality cuticle oil and push them back ever so gently with an orangewood stick.
  • Avoid polish removers that have the ingredient acetone and better make use of those based on acetate and as much as possible use polish removers only once a week.
  • Give your nails a break once in a while in case you wear nail polish. Giving them a break every so often will prevent them from developing some unsightly yellow tint.
  • You can give you nails a natural sheen by simply rubbing some petroleum jelly on them and then buff them with the help of some soft cloth, this will have the same look like the colorless base coat.
  • If you nails are dull, split or are just brittle you need to increase your consumption or organic silica, vitamin B5 and some MSM (Methyl-Sulfonyl –Methane) for good nail health.
  • Biting your nails is extremely destructive to your for your nails as well as the cuticles, this is one habit you need to drop as soon as yesterday.
  • Always dry your nails properly anytime you wash your hands and then apply some hand cream or lotion and remember to use on the nails as well. Soap is known to make your nails dry and brittle.
  • Always file your nails when you have some polish on them as it will prevent the breaking or splitting of nails. And if you have naturally brittle nails, it is important that you have nail polish on as often as possible.

Nail care has become an integral part of personal grooming and you need to spend that time to ensure they look just ok. Just picture a woman who has prepared herself and put on her makeup perfectly and has the best clothes from her wardrobe but then becomes careless with her nails.   • Remember to check on your nails in between visits to the salon
  • Keep your nails short by regularly filing them
  • If your nails are exposed to chemicals on a regular basis or moisture and water it may most likely result in peeling or some allergic reaction so try to use rubber gloves to protect your nails or you can simply cover them with some cotton.

Artificial Nails

  • If you must get artificial nails ensure you get them from a qualified technician
  • Take your artificial nails for manicure and refilling every two or three weeks
  • You will always find an appropriate solution if you decide to remove artificial nails and by the way your natural nails will just remain in the same condition.

Nail Tip Design

  • Do not use glue as it is likely to damage your nails even when carefully applied on polish layers.
  • Ensure the last polish layer is dry before applying a new one.

For Acrylic Nails

  • Your acrylic nail needs to be kept polished but you should add some thinner as a thick polish is likely to cause some ugly bubbles.
  • Always clean your nails before applying and acrylic layer as it will not apply properly if the nail ahs any remnants of cuticle oil, old polish or lotion.

Use the nail stick to clean up the acrylic on the skin just around the fingernail.
